Bol, Brac

The next day I checked out of my hostel and took a ferry to the island of Brac. I thought I wanted to go to Supetan, but I decided to just hop on the bus to the other side of the island to Bol where they have windsurfing!
I had to go to the bathroom and wanted to find a room. I found one at the top of the hill and rushed in to use the bathroom.
Then I changed into my suit and headed to the beach. When I was almost there it started pouring! It rained so hard, everyone windsurfing came in and sat under cover. It rained so long everyone changed out of their wetsuits to go home. I sat and had a cubre libre.
When it stopped raining, I went to use the internet and joined a week long sailing tour of the croatian islands. It is for 18 to 35 year olds and a couple people from my hostel are going.
I decided to celebrate and had some seafood pasta and a glass of wine. The view in Bol is awesome.
It was so relaxing there, I loved it.
When I made it back to my room, I had a beautiful view from my deck, so I sat out there for a long time.
I could have stayed a few more days, but I had to go back to Split in the morning to catch the sailing tour.
Now I,m here in Split

Split :)

After that first night in Split I moved to the Silver Gate Hostel. It wasn't as quiet but it was filled with english speaking tourists.
My mom gave me some BodyTalk and I went to the beach with some new friends. A couple Scottish guys from the hostel and some english girls we met along the way.
In the evening I felt 100 times better.
That night we hung out in the hostel drinking and then went to a club at the beach. But I was too tired and kept yawning!
The next day I went on a long hike to the top of a hill at Maryan Park, it was so hot. And the view was amazing.
Then I went to the other beach and it started raining, but I still went swimming.
I went in sat in the square and had coffee and wrote in my journal with my new friend Will, he reminds me of my brother Matt. :)
I decided to stay in and not go out because I had done soo much walking, I was exhausted.
But I hardly slept, everyone else was so loud in the hostel.

Well I'm in the town of Split. I had a great time staying in Zadar with my new friend Gloria. I was thinking about taking a boat tour of Kornati National Park, but the weather was suppose to be bad so I decided to head down to Split instead.
I took the bus to Sibenic and hiked to the castle walls on the hill and took some photos. Then when it looked like it was going to rain I got on a bus for Split.
It was raining when I got here and a woman was standing right off the bus offering her Sobe, I took one from her friend and followed her to a private room. I had my own room with 2 twins and a bathroom down the hall. An Australian couple are down the hall they invited me in for a home cooked meal of chicken and pasta.
I'm feeling rather lonely. I think I've been moving to much. I think I need plans. Because without plans, the day goes very slowly and I feel awfully overwhelmed.
I found a hostel tonight, so I can meet some other young people. I think I'll head to the beach in a bit.
I need to relax. But I feel mostly lonely and overwhelmed.
How do I cope?

Zadar - Croatia

Today I am Zadar. I arrived yesterday. I am staying with Gloria (from CouchSurfing.org) she is very nice and helpful, even though she is busy studying for exams.
This is me with a statue of a very famous scientist

She showed me around the city and we had pizza for dinner, and icecream!Today we got to sleep in, and I have a room to myself with a huge bed! Later I will go into town to set up a trip for tomorrow.
I want to take a boat tour to Kornati National Park, made up of 11 islands. It should be fun!

She has a nice 3 bedroom apartment with a beautiful view.

Zagreb - Croatia

Here are lots of photos of Zagreb.
Me! in front of St Mary Cathedral.
Kava, I learned that if you just order coffee, you just get coffee, without any milk, it is very bitter, they give you lots of sugar to go with it! Know I know to ask for "Kava sa Mljelo"

We left my bag in a locker at the train station while we did a little tour of Zagreb, after lunch it started pouring and we had to run back to the station to get my bag!

This cute little kitten was meowing from a closet in the hostel, we tried to take care of her and bring her back to life.

Cherry Beer from Belgium

A night out with new friends in Zagreb, Dashu from CS and his friends behind, Charlie and Kristina from my hostel and me!

Flower Market and blue skies!

Cheap good food and my Hostel Nocturno is on the left

Zagreb - Croatia

Mario met me at the train station and showed me all around Zagreb and even helped me find a hostel to stay at. He was very nice and helpful.

Munich to Zagreb

I landed Thursday evening in Munich after a very long trip from Seattle. I found my way easily to Jenn and Travis' apartment.
During my layover in Vancouver, a young guy asked to exchange some money with me so he could pay his bill at the restaurant, he gave me a little over 9 euro for 10 dollars! That's probably the best exchange rate I'll get all trip!
On Thursday night Jenn and I grabbed a bite to eat at a little organic cafe and went to join her friends at a beer garden. We got there after they stopped serving beer outside (boo) but it's understandable, this place was 3 times the size of Linda's patio and packed with beer drinking Germans. The noise level must get very loud and it is surrounded by apartments. I wished I had taken a photo before it started to clear out. We moved inside to get a beer and had to wait forever.
I was running on empty after my long flights, just on autopilot. And was glad to lay down. But I hardly slept! I made the mistake of looking at my watch to see that it was 3:30 in the afternoon at home!
The next day I walked to Marianplatz to go to T-Mobile and get my train ticket to Zagreb.
I decided to take the night train, even after reading the warnings against it about robbers gasing traveler's sleeper compartments and stealing their valuables.
Jenn and Travis came with me to the train station and I got a beer and some chocolate for the trip. Everyone was buying beer, I thought I was in for a wild night.
But my couchette slept 6 and it was full and everyone was ready to go to sleep when the train left.
I drank my beer in the hallway with a guy traveling down to Bosnia for his cousin's wedding, but he had to miss out on the reception party to return to Germany to take exams. (bummer!)
The trip was uneventful, I learned that I can't sleep on a train, packed in a tiny hot compartment with 5 strangers. I heard the robbers boarded our train while it was traveling through Austria, but they didn't come to our car.
Today I arrived in Zagreb, the capitol of Croatia at 8:30am. My Mom's friend's friend's friend Mario met me at the station and took me on a tour of the city. It is pretty awesome people can be so dang friendly. He also majored in tourism and is happy to share his city with travelers.
I was going to couchsurf, but decided to book a hostel when it started to rain and I was running low on energy.
Mario was very nice, he showed me around the city and bought him lunch to thank him for the personal local tour. We picked up my bag from the train station and parted ways. I was hoping to relax in my hostel.
It was pouring earlier. I thought i left Seattle! I wish I had my rain boots, my chaco's got soaked!

Tomorrow I will take the train to Zadar to begin my Southward journeys along the Coast.

*this computer is blocked so I can't upload photos, I will add some later!

Farewell Seattle

I'm leaving on Wednesday!

Wanted to see some friends before I went off by myself for a couple months, so..

I got together with a few friends for one last Capitol Hill bar crawl before I go. We got Thai food (YUM!), stopped in at Honey Hole for Mojitos

We stopped in at Barca for a few drinks!

and on Sunday a big group of friends met for a sushi dinner at my favorite sushi restaurant.

We stopped in at Sonya's for a drink, but the back bar wasn't open :(

It was kind of sad to say farewell for a few weeks.

Thursday, June 11, 2009

I got my tickets! I'm soo excited! I decided to stay a little longer than orignally planned. I'm staying 10 weeks! Now I can fit everything in and I don't have to hurry.
But... I'm leaving on the 17th, that's only 1 week away! We better celebrate I'm leaving, but then I'll be back before you know it!
Come to Europe and visit me for a week, that would be pretty sweet, but I'm pretty excited about doing this adventure on my own :)

CouchSurfing.org

Joined CouchSurfing.org so I can stay on people's couches while I'm in Europe.

Great way to stay cheap and meet people!

Planning My Trip!

Hi!
I'm planning my next Adventure! I'm going to Europe, by myself!
I don't have a job or an apartment to worry about, so I'm going off on a new adventure.

First I wanted to start my trip with a group tour and when I looked at places and trips in Europe I found Croatia with over 1000 islands and red brick roofs there has to be great outdoor activities and history!

So my itinerary will include:
Croatia
Slovenia
Bosnia
Austria
and Germany
(At first I wanted to squeeze Italy and Greece in there too! But then I realized I will already have plenty to see and do in these 5 countries!)

I also decided I want to go on a budget and I want to do more activities then history lessons and stay cheaply, so I'm ditching the group idea and going solo.

I want to leave mid to late June so I better hurry and grab my tickets!'
